COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DOES THE VEHICLE DONATION PROGRAM WORK?

Any vehicle free of debt and with a certificate of title can be donated to the American Lung Association. We will sell the vehicle at auction and use the funds to support our local programs and services.

DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET MY TITLE NOTARIZED?

We have a notary on staff right here in our office in Tucson that is happy to notarize your title FREE of charge.  Please drop by the American Lung Association at 2819 E. Broadway between 8:30a.m. and 4:30p.m. Monday through Friday.  Also, notaries are usually available at your local bank or credit union at no charge.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MY VEHICLE IS WORTH?

As of January 1, 2005 the tax deductible amount is based on the gross amount the vehicle brings at auction.  In most cases where deductions are itemized, donors are able to take a deduction of the gross sales price of the vehicle, or $500, whichever is greater.  Please consult with your tax preparer regarding your specific tax situation.

DO YOU TAKE ANYTHING OTHER THAN CARS? IS THERE ANY LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES I CAN DONATE?

Any vehicle with a title can be donated, including cars, trucks, boats, motor homes, motorcycles, boat trailers, etc. There is no limit to the number of vehicles that can be donated.

DOES THE VEHICLE HAVE TO RUN?

No. The vehicle can be towed from where it is, if needed.  Our tow company is happy to provide this service free of charge.

HOW SOON CAN MY VEHICLE BE PICKED UP?

Once we receive the title, you will hear from our tow company in 1-3 business days.  If you MUST have the vehicle towed sooner, we can usually make special arrangements to expedite pickup. If your vehicle is in danger of being impounded, please let us know right away so we can make arrangements to have the vehicle picked up.

I CAN’T FIND MY TITLE. HOW DO I GET ONE?

Call the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles at (520) 629-9808 or visit one of their office locations to request a duplicate title. There is a $4.00 charge for a duplicate title. A list of DMV office locations and hours can be found online at www.azdot.gov.

MY TITLE IS FREE AND CLEAR, YET IT STILL LISTS THE BANK AS A LIEN HOLDER. WHAT DO I DO?

When a car loan is paid, the lender sends a “ lien release”. To donate your car, ALAA MUST receive this lien release along with the title. If you cannot find the lien release, call the former lien holder for a replacement.

WHAT DOES THE AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF ARIZONA DO WITH THE PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF MY VEHICLE?

The proceeds from the sale of you vehicle will enable the American Lung Association of Arizona to accomplish our mission- to prevent lung disease and promote lung health. We work for improvement in three key areas: asthma, air quality and tobacco control. With the help of our volunteers and the public, we are targeting these areas through research, education and advocacy.

Our programs include: Camp Not-A-Wheeze, Open Airways for Schools, Freedom From Smoking, Breathe Free Program, Better Breathers Support Group, Breathe Well Live Well, and additional research. For information about any of these programs, please call (520) 323-1812.

Thank you for thinking of the
American Lung Association of Arizona!
