Last year our COPD Team along with more than 100 volunteers participated in a day-long COPD Summit at the Arizona State University – West Campus. At the Summit, ideas and opportunities, including a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) was discussed. This year the Coalition will take the next steps create a multi-year action plan base on the needs expressed by Coalition members and the findings of the RCA. cmonroe@lungarizona.org for more information

Respiratory Care Week
Respiratory Care Week is celebrated annually on the last full week in October. In conjunction with this event, Lung Health Day is observed on Wednesday of Respiratory Care Week in order to bring lung health issues to the attention of the public. It usually relates to people with breathing disorders, such as: asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases), cystic fibrosis, chest trauma and/or pneumonia.

World COPD Day
World COPD Day is an annual event organized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) to improve awareness and care of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) around the world. On World COPD Day, events in dozens of countries worldwide involve patients, families, health care professionals, and public health officials in raising awareness of this disease and what can be done to combat it. cmonroe@lungarizona.org for more information

The Great American Smoke Out
The Great American Smoke Out is an annual event to encourage Americans (of whom 45.8 million smoke) to quit tobacco smoking. The event challenges people not to smoke cigarettes for 24 hours, hoping their decision to quit will last forever. 2009 Respiratory Rally
The Respiratory Rally is a special day for people with lung disease, their families, and caregivers to learn better ways to manage their chronic lung disease. The day includes free medical screenings, the latest in lung health information, exhibits, buffet breakfast, and seated lunch designed with the nutritional needs of the respiratory patient in mind. A comfortable treatment room will be available, free valet parking, and fun entertainment and door prizes are lined up too. cmonroe@lungarizona.org for more information
