Thomas F. Byrd, M.D. from the University of New Mexico is the recipient of this award in the amount of $100,000.Dr. Byrd is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine and in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. The DeSouza Research Award focuses on one or more of three areas of interest: bronchiectasis; infection with atypical Mycobacteria, particularly Mycobacterium Avium; and infection with Nocardia species. The award supports clinical, laboratory, or epidemiological research relating
to these three conditions. Duration: up to three years.
